Finder's Personal Story

It was the 11th day and there were people everywhere. A co-worker of my wife (Cory Hargreaves) and I were at Lillydale until 3am Wednesday morning and were back out there by about 6:15am. Cory and I had been digging among the cockbur very near where it was hidden. I couldn't believe the snow hadn't been touched by that point as it was very close to 48 paces from the waterline.

I remember seeing a handful of people pace it off right by us and they would stop on the path and then walk away. Throughout the morning I pondered whether or not it could be under the path. Cory left to get warmer clothes and I ran into Rob and we decided to join forces for the rest of the day. Someone brought us lunch about 11 and we went to warm up and eat.

While we were eating, we started talking to Rick Brown, who found the medallion at Como underneath a path everyone had been walking on. Rick left and I told Rob "We need to take another look at these clues". The clues used obscure words to reference walking or tripping, and I began to think it was likely the treasure was in fact under that path.

Rob and I headed back out to the path and began chipping away at the ice and almost immediately my hoe broke. I had an ice pick back at my car so we walked back to my car then returned again.

When we got back to the spot (there were roots "tangled" at the end of the fallen down tree" Rob and I went to opposite sides of the tree and started chipping away. I remember turning over a huge chunk of ice and seeing the edge of the medallion wrapped in cellophane. I had a brief conversation with a young couple nearby and I told them "I think its over guys". I proceeded to get the medallion out of the ice and damage it in the process. The next thing I know I was screaming "YES, YES, I'M A TWO TIME FINDER!!! YES!" At some point Rob jumped over the log and almost fell flat on his face. He got down on his knees and looked at me. It was the most obvious look of disbelief I've ever seen.

We stayed and showed it to everyone at the park. I had promised my coworkers I'd bring it in and show it to them if I found it so Rob drove my car downtown Minneapolis and dropped me off. We then headed to Bugg's in South Saint Paul and had a beer. After that it was back to my house for a quick shower and then it was off to the PP. My in laws were nice enough to make the trip up and share in the experience which was fun. I had been hunting at Lillydale since the previous Friday (I was misquoted in the paper).

In terms of weather it was probably the most brutal hunt I've participated in.

How soon will find #3 come????
